‘Life is the space in which everything happens’ – Eckhart Tolle
Having grown up with a lot of death in my formative years (my mother was an undertaker), I contemplated the wonders of life maybe earlier than most people. I came to three profound realisations which I didn’t fully understand for many years, and somehow still don’t fully understand. These are . . .
- there is no time
- there is no death
- there is no truth
All three, when more or less understood, banish all fear inside, and lead to a life of purpose, joy and abundance.
(Please relax your shoulder muscles, and read slowly)
When you were born, it was ‘now’. You were not born tomorrow, nor yesterday. You were born in the ‘now’.
Right now, you are reading this. I am also writing this, now. By the time you read this, I might only be a memory, but that’s beside the point. Right now, I am writing, and right now, you are reading.
When you (or rather: your body and mind) dies, it will also be ‘now’. You cannot die tomorrow, and you cannot die yesterday.
Everything happens in the ‘now’. When we understand this, and start living consciously in the present moment, life becomes pure joy. This is because there is no problem in the present moment. As soon as your mind drift into the past or the future, anxiety returns, your heart starts beating faster, you start worrying.
Does this make sense?
(For more on this topic read ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle)
Yes off course ‘practical time’ exists. If you are going to catch a bus at 17h00, you need to plan and get ready to make sure you get there in time.
But we cannot get away from the fact that everything (life) only happens in the now. So all there is, and ever will be, is ‘now’. The rest is in the mind. Thoughts.
It is what it is
Nobody can change the past. You are here, now. It is what it is. There is no other way. Everything that happened in your life in the past has brought you to this moment. Your whole life has brought you here, now. No use getting upset about your situation. Right now, this is it. Accept it as it is.
The past, and the future, only exist in your mind. Thoughts. We have erroneously been conditioned to spend over 80% of our time thinking about the past or the future. The consequence is that we worry most of the time (we create pictures of everything that has happened or what can go wrong, which creates continuous fear and anxiety).
The consequence of this is that we live less than 20% of our lives! No wonder there’s so much unhappiness around us.
Imagine you are watching a movie. In your hand you have a remote control to slow down the speed of the movie by turning it to the left, or speed up the movie by turning it to the right. If you turn it al the way to the left, the movie comes to a complete standstill. If you turn it all the way to the right, all forms come and go so fast you can span centuries in seconds. It’s called infinity.
On your movie screen today you have the seed of an oak tree. An acorn.
Now watch yourself plant that acorn in the ground. You add water. Watch that little sprout breaking the soil, , leaves start to form, larger it grows, a beautiful tree, birds come and go, nests, eggs, chicks, spring, summer, autumn, winter: leaves come and go, flowers, acorns, fall off, tree grows bigger, get’s older and older, fire, wood, dead. Gone.
Now think a bit. What brought life to that acorn? And where did the life go when the tree died?
And the answer is this: Life was always there. In this case it experienced itself in the form of an oak tree. It also experience itself in the form of human beings. You! And me. And everything and everybody …
And the wonderful truth (I know I said ‘there is no truth’ – you are jumping ahead: it’s topic 3 of 3) is this:
There is only One Life.
All forms (including you and I and …) come and go, but the One Life is forever. Always there. In space, in you, in me, in everything.
(And this has nothing to do with religion, by the way, despite the fact that all religions, under layers and layers of misinformation, comes from the same basic place).
The big sin (missing of the mark), or insanity, or madness, or suffering, or whatever you want to call it, happens when we forgot who we are. When we suddenly think we are separate. Separate Ego’s. Separate Minds.
It’s is only when we forget that we are one, that we compete all the time. We hurt ourselves. Hurt each other. Kill our environment. Make weapons to kill each other (ourselves?).
But on your movie screen, if you go further back, look at the earth, turning round and round, our solar system, our galaxy, billions of other galaxies, see all forms come and go.
Life Carries On . . .
‘Life Is The Space In Which Everything Happens’
There Is No Time.
The real power of happens when you become still, present, 100% now. It is only there where you can connect to the Source of Life. And there, inside, we have access to power and joy that no mind can comprehend.
What has all this got to do with ‘financial freedom’?
Everything! Watch this space…
